Financing of new Eemshaven quay is complete
According to RTV Noord, funding has been secured for a new ferry quay in Eemshaven. If construction proceeds as planned, ferry services between Eemshaven and the Norwegian port of Arendal are expected to begin in 2028.
According to Eemskrant.nl, the new quay project is a joint initiative by Groningen Seaports, the Province of Groningen, the municipalities of Eemsdelta and Het Hogeland, and the Economic Agenda of Nij Begun. The investment is intended to enable the planned ferry connection between Eemshaven and Arendal from 2028, creating a direct maritime link between the north of the Netherlands and southern Norway. Dutch Minister Pieter Heerma said the project will strengthen the economic position of both regions, while local partners also expect it to boost tourism and recreation. Groningen Seaports believes the new quay will further enhance Eemshaven’s role as a strategic logistics hub on the North Sea and support its long-term growth ambitions.
